How to Install a Bridge Kitchen Faucet:
Step-by-Step Guide
What tools you need, how long it takes, and exactly what a plumber will do — so you know what to expect.
A bridge kitchen faucet installation is a standard plumbing task that a competent plumber can complete in 2–3 hours. It is also a task that a confident DIYer with basic plumbing experience can tackle in 3–4 hours. This guide covers both scenarios — what the process involves, what tools are required, and when it makes sense to call a professional rather than attempt it yourself.
Before You Start: Confirm Your Setup
- Hole configuration: Bridge faucets require three holes at 8” (203mm) center-to-center. Confirm your sink or countertop has this exact configuration before ordering. If you have a single-hole sink, a bridge faucet cannot be installed without additional countertop drilling.
- Supply line compatibility: All our faucets include both US and UK plumbing adapters, confirming compatibility with your local supply connections before installation.
- Shut-off valves: Confirm you have accessible shut-off valves beneath the sink before starting. If none exist, a plumber should install them as part of the project.
Tools Required
- Basin wrench or adjustable wrench
- Plumber's putty or silicone sealant
- Teflon (PTFE) thread tape
- Bucket and old towels
- Flashlight (for under-sink work)
- Installation hardware (included with all Brass For Homes faucets)
The Installation Process
- Turn off water supply at the shut-off valves beneath the sink. Turn on the existing faucet to release residual pressure.
- Remove the existing faucet. Disconnect supply lines from below. Unscrew the mounting nuts from beneath the sink. Lift out the old faucet from above.
- Clean the deck surface. Remove any old putty, sealant, or mineral deposits from around the holes.
- Apply plumber's putty or silicone to the base of each faucet component before setting them into position (refer to specific instructions included with your faucet).
- Lower the handle assemblies through the two outer holes from above. Secure with mounting nuts from beneath.
- Lower the spout body through the center hole. Secure from beneath.
- Connect the supply lines to the hot and cold inlets beneath the sink using Teflon tape on all threaded connections. Do not overtighten — hand tight plus a quarter turn with a wrench is sufficient.
- Connect the bridge across the top of the two handle assemblies per the installation instructions included.
- Turn the water back on slowly and check all connections for leaks. Run hot and cold through each handle to confirm operation.
When to Call a Plumber
- You do not have shut-off valves beneath your sink
- Your sink or countertop needs to be drilled for the correct hole configuration
- You are not confident working under the sink in a tight space
- The existing supply lines are corroded or do not match the new faucet connections

Practical takeaway for How to Install a Bridge Kitchen Faucet (Step-by-Step Guide)
The useful way to read this guide is to connect the design idea with the measurements, finish behavior, and daily use of the room. A good choice should look beautiful in photos, but it also needs to feel natural around the sink, counter, cabinet line, lighting, and cleaning routine. A faucet decision should start with hole spacing, spout reach, handle clearance, and the way the sink is used every day. A beautiful finish matters, but the piece also needs to clear the backsplash, reach comfortably into the basin, and leave enough room for cleaning around the deck or wall mount.
What to check before you choose
Before buying, confirm the dimensions, mounting style, clearance, and nearby surfaces. In kitchens, that means checking the sink, backsplash, counter depth, and traffic around the work zone. In bathrooms, it means checking vanity depth, mirror placement, splash area, and hand clearance. If the article is about finish or patina, compare how much natural change you want to see over months of normal use.
How to style the finish naturally
Warm metal works best when it is repeated lightly instead of forced into a perfect match. Pair brass, copper, or patina with stone, limewash, handmade tile, natural wood, plaster, or quiet cabinet colors. This gives the room a collected feeling and keeps the fixture or sink as the hero. The goal is not a showroom match; it is a room that feels calm, useful, and personal.

Care and long-term value
After installation, treat the surface gently. Use mild soap, a soft cloth, and regular drying around water contact points. Avoid abrasive pads, bleach, and aggressive acids. Living finishes will deepen where hands and water touch most, while polished surfaces may need occasional attention to stay bright. That maintenance rhythm is part of owning real metal hardware and is often what makes the room feel richer with age.
